The Friends Reunion Special Is Coming
After months (or, at now , years) of rumors and anticipation, the buddies reunion of our dreams goes to become a reality. The cast was set to collect for a special on HBO's streaming service HBO Max, to honor the long-lasting sitcom's 25th anniversary. There are some bumps within the road to production because the entertainment world is on pause during the coronavirus pandemic; but as we await what is going to be Jennifer Aniston's perfect behind-the-scenes Instagrams from the set, we're laying out everything we all know about the project thus far .
MATTHEW PERRY SAYS THE SPECIAL WILL AIR IN MARCH 2021.
"Friends reunion being rescheduled for the start of March. seems like we've a busy year arising . and that is the way i prefer it!" Perry tweeted.

ALL OF the celebs ARE returning .
Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), Courteney Cox (Monica), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), Matt LeBlanc (Joey), Matthew Perry (Chandler), and David Schwimmer (Ross) will reunite at the first Friends soundstage—Stage 24, at the Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank—to film. All six stars also will executive produce.
The Late Late Show writer Ben Winston will direct. He's also an executive producer, along side Friends EPs Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane; and Emma Conway and James Longman.
When the reunion news was announced, the leads all shared an equivalent photo and caption on Instagram—"It's happening"—and tagged one another . (Good thing Aniston and Perry are now on the app.) The image, shot by Mark Seliger, is from the May 18, 1995 issue of Rolling Stone.

THE REUNION SPECIAL isn't a replacement FRIENDS EPISODE.
The main cast will reunite, revisit the set, have surprises, and share behind-the-scenes footage, but they will not be portraying their original characters. They'll simply be appearing as themselves.
HBO Max explained during a statement, "Lastly, so as to avoid any misunderstanding about what this special is, we would like to form it very clear that this is often not a replacement , original episode of the series. The cast are going to be appearing as themselves, not as their beloved characters."
PRODUCTION HAD BEEN DELAYED.
Like other shows and films during the worldwide pandemic, the buddies special is adjusting its filming schedule. And consistent with Entertainment Weekly, any hope that the series would be ready to shoot in late summer 2020 has quickly dwindled. The publication is reporting that shooting "has been pushed back indefinitely thanks to the continued pandemic." And as Entertainment Weekly reports, the rationale for the special's delay is obvious: "As California has become a hotspot for the coronavirus over the past month, taping an in-person reunion not seems possible within the immediate future." Insert weeping emoji here.
During a phone interview with Deadline, Jennifer Aniston reacted to the postponement and said, "It’s getting to be super. you recognize what? This has also given us longer to form it even more exciting and more fun than it might are . So i select to ascertain it because the glass is half-full that it got postponed. Look, we’re not going anywhere. You’re never getting to get obviate Friends, sorry. You’re cursed with us for all times guys."
"Unfortunately it’s very sad that we had to maneuver it again," Aniston continued. "It was, ‘How can we do that with live audiences?’ this is often not a secure time. Period. That’s rock bottom line. It’s not a secure time to try to to it."

David Schwimmer had previously expressed his hope that the reunion would happen in 2020, as he told Entertainment Weekly, "We're hoping it'll be ready to convene and shoot it in August, but the reality is, we'll roll in the hay once we all determine it's safe to try to to so." He continued, "There's no doubt we would like to try to to it and it's getting to happen. It's just really an issue of when are going to be the safest time to try to to it."
The project was initially slated to film on March 23 and 24 in Burbank, but was "delayed until a minimum of May," The Hollywood Reporter stated in March. Then, WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer chairman Bob Greenblatt explained, per Variety, "We’re holding out for having the ability to urge this special done hopefully by the top of the summer, if the celebs align and hopefully we will revisit into production."
The option for doing the reunion virtually is a smaller amount likely, although it's going to be possible if production is "delayed too long," Greenblatt added. "We do think there’s a worth to having an enormous , raucous live audience to experience these six great friends returning together and that we didn’t want to only suddenly roll in the hay on an internet call with, you know, six squares and other people shooting from their kitchens and bedrooms,” he said.
A MINI REUNION WENT DOWN AT THE 2020 EMMYS.
Although none of the male cast members made appearances, the women of Friends, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow, all appeared together on-screen during last night's Emmys. While Aniston was chatting with host Jimmy Kimmel, her "roommates" Cox and Kudrow joined her. "We've been cohabitation since 1994," Aniston quipped.

Though it wasn't the fully fledged reunion fans are expecting , it had been a joyous surprise—and the smallest amount we deserve in 2020, TBQH.
LISA KUDROW is prepared FOR THE REUNION.
Kudrow also said that she loves getting along side her former cast mates as all of them have such great memories. She said, "I think that I remember things, on the other hand I ask Matt [LeBlanc] or Jennifer [Aniston], and that they remember everything. It’s really fun."

THE CAST WILL REPORTEDLY MAKE MILLIONS.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the celebs negotiated their fees together and can be paid between $2.5 million and $3 million each for the reunion special. That's far more than the $1 million-per-episode rates that they had when Friends was still running.
YOU CAN take part ON THE FILMING.
The cast is offering up six tickets for the taping of the reunion special, although the date of the filming itself remains unknown. The auction is a component of the beat Challenge, through which celebrities are raising funds for various organizations, like America's Food Fund.
